On September 19th, Canadian Lawyer InHouse celebrated its 4th annual Innovatio Awards, celebrating in-house legal departments that have embraced innovation and improved the way they practise in today’s complex legal environment. Among the winners, Legal Suite's client Prince Rupert Port Authority, Canada's leading edge port in trade growth, maritime safety, environmental stewardship and community partnerships, whose legal department has been recognized for its leadership in the public sector category.
Prince Rupert Port Authority purchased Legal Suite's Contracts module to store and manage all PRPA contracts, in both the negotiation phase and active executed contracts.
"What we've been working towards quite successfully is establishing a contract management system with appropriate reminder systems that allow to make sure we're constantly monitoring agreements for compliance." - Andrew Mayer, former GC, new judge with Supreme Court of B.C.
"We had purchased a contract management software [from Legal Suite] which we have been populating. [...] We decided that it would be valuable for our organization to truly understand throughout the life of a contract what obligations, both ourselves and the other party, should be complying with and how it is being managed as an organization." - Shelly O'Brien, in-house counsel.
Since implementing Legal Suite in 2011, the knowledge base of the company increased throughout the organization. The department is providing more information to the management team and is able to follow up with each department regarding compliance items. Moving forwards, Prince Rupert Port Authority plans to leverage even more how they use Legal Suite, specifically how information is inputted to ensure consistency and accuracy.
